Once again, it has been some time since I have written anything and thought I should try to get caught up. Without deadlines or permits to worry about, life at The Drunken Bear has been much more relaxed and satisfying. Steve and I came up a few times during the late winter and started working on the trim around the windows. It doesn’t appear to be that hard to do, but there are lots of pieces and measurements needed to make a window complete. Steve and I had to laugh as it took us a very long time to do the first window. We would measure and re-measure. There are the inside measurements and the outside measurements. I really like the design we chose. We chose hemlock for the wood. We do a little bit at a time so that the cost is spread out a little more. People have been asking why I have not posted for quite some time.  I have pretty lame excuses other than just being plain busy with other projects and with the month of December devoted to Christmas.  But, I decided I had better post while my memory still serves me...ha. Well, we finally did it!  We passed our final inspection!!!!!  Steve and I worked our butts off this last summer and early fall to meet the deadline on the building permit.  And, we did it with only two days to spare.  Our second building permit ran out on October 26th.  Inspections in our area are only on Wednesdays, so on October 24th, we had our final inspection and the inspector signed off!  Steve and I were ecstatic!  The inspector closed the door and we were jumping up and down and hugging each other...we held back the screams of joy so as not to startle the inspector...ha!  There are no more deadlines to meet, no more inspections to worry about...the cabin is...

Steve and I have been working on the cabin frequently this summer and our efforts are definitely paying off!  We finished off the remainder of the sheet rock hanging in mid-May.  I went back to visit my family in Montana for a little over two weeks in late May.  While I was gone, Steve went to the cabin and started the taping and mudding process.  People had been stating that the sheet rock hanging was the easy step in the process and I now understand what they mean.  When I got back from vacation we went to The Drunken Bear and jumped in where Steve had stopped.  He continued applying the tape and mudding in those areas still needing it and I started the first sanding process.  We did this for over a month.  Sanding, remudding, sanding, remudding and finally, the last sanding.  We had planned on adding an "orange peel" texture to the walls, but by the time we finally finished, we were pretty happy with our results and have decided against...
