Labor Day Weekend

Image
Rich Holliday and Cris Sabaten sitting by the campfire. Brian Landau getting smoke in his eyes. Steve stoking the fire and getting it under the grill to cook the baby back barbecued ribs...yummy! Baby back ribs, corn on the cob, baby back ribs, corn on the cob... Steve and I enjoying the coals of the fire.  Claudio Diaz de Leon Brian Landau Cris Sabaten Claudio bringing the necessities for the campfire...a cooler filled with beer and Tim's Cascade potato chips. Claudio using his dog, Griz, as a pillow. All Hell Breaks Loose

Steve and I left Seattle around 9:30 a.m., on November 16th, headed for the cabin to get our washer and dryer delivered and installed.  We stopped at Safeway in Monroe to pick up a pizza for dinner.  We had planned on stopping by Costco in Woodinville, but forgot to take the exit.  We got to Sultan about 10:50 a.m. and decided to stop for breakfast at the Sultan Café.  As we were driving down Skyko Drive, we noticed that the trailer that was on the edge of the bank was no longer there and as we passed by Trish’s, our neighbor to the East of us, I noticed the deck on their property looked somewhat different, but I did not give it a second thought.  It was raining and we quickly unloaded Steve’s car.  We went to the river to see if we could see the trailer and as we approached the edge, we saw that the tree that had leaned out over the river was no longer there and that Trish’s deck was askew.  The river was up right against our rocks and it was mov...

We have not done a lot of finish work on the cabin as I thought we would. We have almost completed the window trim. And, as I will talk about later, we have installed our propane fireplace. Most of the time spent at the cabin has been visiting with friends. We have cleaned up more of the wood piles left over from the construction and have filled our wood shed on a couple of occasions. We do tend to burn a lot of wood when we have people visit.  As I have said before, we tend to spend quite a bit of time around the campfire. We are pretty much wood scavengers and when anyone asks us if we could use some wood, we always take advantage of it. This visit, my truck was filled with the remains of my laurel hedge in the city.       Ev...
